September 2008 Archives

The word is out.  We have committed.  The big opening is set...

Diva Lounge

Saturday, October 11 from 3 - 6 p.m.

3080 McMillan Ave., Ste C
San Luis Obispo, CA

I hope you will all be there.  We are very excited to have a store front to grow into.  We envision this as the spot for future photo shoots, meeting up with local divas, as well as a venue to record the latest happening with all running divas.

We're still working out all the details for the party.  Fashion, food, music and friends.  Check out Marc's new printing head quarters and our quirky furniture.  Don't forget the latest in diva wear - items that will be debuted in NYC!  Including performance tanks and long sleeves!

Check your schedule and see if a trip to SLO is in the cards.  If you're interested in racing XC, I'm looking to hope into the Cal Poly Invite XC race on Saturday morning at the Fairbanks course.  Or you could run the City to Sea 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.  This is a great race that starts in downtown SLO and ends at the golf course in Avila Beach.  Beautiful finish to this race -- and the breakfast is yummy!

Please let me know if you're coming to the Diva Lounge opening.  Register today: http://runningdivaslounge.eventbrite.com/

Can't wait to see everyone at our hometown gig.  aero

It's all about pacing.  I've had two hard weeks at the office, I think I'm ready for an easy week.  That's my strategy.  Going out slow today, working regular consistent hours -- flexible, but consistent.  Not getting too caught up in any issue, it will all get done in it's time.  I like it, positive, productive without all the hype.

Then there's the important part of the week -- workouts!

I'm shooting for 45 miles this week.  Hard workouts on Wednesday and Saturday.  One of those days will be at the XC course -- 5 miles worth of repeat switch backs, and another will be my favorite -- tempo (ugh), that's always the mental challenge for the miler in me (actually the 800 meter runner).

Monday's a "no run" day.  Pool at lunch.  Actually hope to get in the pool twice this week, and yoga on Thursday.

My ankle has been talking too me -- I'm not sure what triggers it, but I still have not fully recovered from that sprain I had back in May.  Age, the one noticeable side-effect that I would like to minimize -- slow recovery to injury.  So the key... injury free.  More cross training.

So overall, it's looking like a great week.  And now that fall's here, we're enjoying some beautiful sunshine on the coast!

Got to get to work, or so much for that consistency thing I mentioned up above. Have a good day.  aero out

It's out of control.  For the past two weeks work has taken over.  Two trips, north and south, compounded w/ hiring two new staff, town hall meetings and overdue staff reports for the upcoming Board meeting.  BUT -- I just saw a glimmer at the end of the tunnel.

My training has suffered.  Deep water running -- out the door. Play track -- let's hope I get it in today. Mileage, I had to drop it down - 40 miles is much more realistic with all this worksmirk. Missed my hard workout on Wednesday, but last Sunday was an epic exercise day.

Marc and I surfed for two hours.  Paddled over to south jetty, trekked down the beach to a peaky spot all by our selves!  Dolphins, seals and pelicans were all around us.  Minor crash w/ my board, but thanks to my hard head I was still able to surf a few more waves then come back to the car get ready for my long run home.

I was tired on the run, no doubt, but got her in!  Funny enough I did get tripped up on a darn rock and took a dive in the soft dirt right next to the 13th hole at the Morro Bay golf course.  It was a nice warm day, so the dirt stuck nicely to my arms, legs, face and belly.  I definitely felt like a dirt diva!

Speaking of dirt divas, I'm still hoping to squeak out a few cross country races this season.  With my work schedule and marathon expo season, it's nearly impossible to pull off a full xc season.  Realistically, one season of competition per year is the most I can fit in.  And of course the season is track!  But there's nothing like cross country, the mother of all sports, racing on dirt trails, over hills, on grass, so simple you've got to love it!  I always look forward to a few races each year, it's a refreshing change from racing on the track.

Marc's going like crazy getting ready for New York Marathon.  We can't wait.  Booked our room, sounds like a nice spot to hunker down in the big city (thirty thirty hotel).  Still have to get our airflights, I keep hoping w/ the reduce fuel costs the airfare will drop as well -- unlikely I know.  We're going to have some really cool new stuff for this show -- our first debut of wick-away fabric.  Marc's printing them up today!  Tanks and long sleeves, can't wait.

We'll be at the Channel Islands 1/2 marathon in a few weeks.  This is a new race for us, we wanted to try something small & local.  They have a 5 & 10k as well as the 1/2 marathon.  Great part for me is I get to jump into the 5k, another great part we're going to bring the dogs.  It's a family affair.

Oh yes, family.  Hi Mom!  It was great seeing you and Steve in Sacramento.  What a nice evening -- warm weather, good food and some one-on-one time to get caught up.  I keep saying it, but I do need to figure out when I'm going to get up to Oakdale to visit everyone. But in the meantime, w/ my hectic lifestyle and all, I'm voting for family visit down here on the Central Coast -- how can you argue w/ that?  It's a beautiful, get away.

That's right, October 11 -- the Lounge opening. Dasha has the lounge all painted, next up painting the store front.  I think we'll be able to pull it off -- it's really up to me to start w/ the opening promotion -- I got nothing else to do, right?

Hate to say it, but I got to get to work.  It's already been more than 40 hours this week, but I have some items that just can't wait (darn it).  Goal today:  work as little as possible.  Get a few reports complete, pull together materials for this weekend and head home.

It's a beautiful day out there -- sunny from the get go.  Looking forward to a run later this afternoon.  Enjoy your day.  aero

making time to blog

| Comments (1) | TrackBacks (0)

I thought that finding time to blog would be much easier once I stopped the trying to make the oly trials in track, but life is funny the way it has a tendency to over-book itself immediately.  Yeah, I'm trying to blame life -- really I know it's me and my wacky ways.

Looks like I've nearly got the 50 miles per week thing down.  Been doing it for 4 weeks now.  Body is starting to feel normal.  I've even been able to maintain the x-training with deep water running, surfing, yoga and lots of dog hikes each week.  This week we're adding hard workouts.  Wednesday it was six times 3:30 on / off and on Saturday it will be some type of tempo (my favorite, right?).  Us milers have such a tough time w/ the longer stuff!

I've got a crazy day at work today.  Looking to fill two vacant positions!  I'm sure I'll be completely fatigued after today's interviews, but nothing a good "play track" can't fix this evening.  Especially w/ this nice warm weather.  Doing drills, strides and plyos is so nice out at the Cuesta track.  One of these days I'll get photos uploaded to the blog, so you all can see what great facilities we have to work out with.

That's it for now.  I do (really) plan to get back to the blog this weekend.  aero
